Semi-hot bituminous mixtures on the A-23 highway (Zaragoza)<\/h2>\n

In a\u00a0rehabilitation work on the pavement of the A-23 highway<\/strong>, between\u00a0PPKK 250,700 to 277,600 (Zaragoza)<\/strong>, nearly\u00a030,000 t of semi-hot bituminous mixtures<\/strong>, types\u00a0AC 22 bin S 35\/50<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0AC 16 surf<\/strong>, have been put into work. These were manufactured at an\u00a0average temperature of 131 \u00b0C<\/strong>, that is, about\u00a030 \u00b0C below<\/strong>\u00a0the typical temperature of conventional hot production, thanks to the use of a\u00a0bitumen foamer<\/strong>\u00a0in the manufacturing plant.<\/p>\n

According to the results of the\u00a0production control and on-site control tests<\/strong>, the semi-hot mixes have satisfied the\u00a0volumetric and mechanical requirements<\/strong>\u00a0of equivalent conventional hot bituminous mixes. The article in the magazine\u00a0RUTAS (N\u00ba195)<\/strong>\u00a0shows, in addition to the temperature reduction procedure used and the results of the tests, the\u00a0economic, technical and environmental advantages<\/strong>\u00a0of producing bituminous mixtures at low temperatures are reviewed. More specifically, they have tried to quantify those obtained in this case, concluding that\u00a0life cycle analysis<\/strong>\u00a0is the ideal tool to adequately assess the set of improvements found. Finally, some recommendations are made related to the\u00a0reference density<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0water sensitivity<\/strong>\u00a0of semi-hot bituminous mixtures.<\/p>\n
